Thailand

This beautiful ancient land has it all, from white sandy beaches and azure waters, to lush jungles and imposing mountains. Stroll through the streets of the capital, Bangkok as you explore, and enjoy the tantalising aromas from the local street vendors wafting through the air.

Most visitors who come to Thailand want to visit a floating market. Damnoen Saduak is the most popular floating market in Thailand, and great for photo opportunities. An early morning start is a good way to avoid the heat and catch Damnoen Saduak at its liveliest. The market is over an hour outside Bangkok, and the easiest way to get there is to join a tour. Book a day tour to see the floating markets for breakfast and feast on everything from coconut pancakes served hot on banana leaves, to chicken satay skewers and crispy spring rolls. Venture a couple of hours north from Bangkok and you'll discover the ancient ruins of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once the Kingdom of Siam and one of the wealthiest cities in the east before it was destroyed in 1767.

Heading West you will find the famous Bridge over the River Kwai which wsa constructed during the second World War using POWs and was completed within a year under very hostile and unfavourable conditions. It was bombed by the Allied forces in 1944 and every year a festival is held to mark the allied bombing on the 28th of November 1944. The highlight of the festival is a spectacular light and sound show.

There are hundreds of beautiful islands in Thailand, with options for every budget. From the almost-untouched Koh Racha to lively Koh Pha Ngan, the islands offer sand, sun and snorkelling, and kids will love the beautiful beaches teaming with colourful tropical fish.
